3rd December 2016 – Staff and friends of Foyle Women’s Aid took part in a fabulous event in St. Columb’s Hall in Derry, to raise money towards the new Children & Young People’s Unit. After three months of intense training, the dancers pulled off a spectacular night of entertainment and raised some much needed funds.
As part of the international 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence, the Mother’s Union held a prayer vigil in St Columb’s Cathedral in Derry. Attended by Marie and one of our staff members, they received a generous donation of toys, goods and clothes for the women and children in our accommodation
December 2016 – The new Children & Young People’s Centre, POD15 was finally completed and the keys were officially handed over to our Children & Young People’s Coordinator Rosin Hamill, by the contractors Lowry Bros, who were also the company who in 2012/2013 renovated and refurbished Ashleywood House & Mews.
January 2017 – Foyle Women’s Aid Director Marie Brown, met with the CEO of the Wave Trust George Basking to discuss our current Teenlink programme and also the plans in place for our soon to be opened Children and Young People’s Centre – POD15.
February 2017 – The St Mary’s Centre, Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Manchester, held their annual conference in February 2017 entitled ‘Innovation in the field of sexual assault’.
April 2017 – The Ulster Orchestra gave a special performance in The Playhouse, Derry, as part of a tour they were doing around the various Women’s Aid Organisations in Northern Ireland. This was also followed by a discussion with Marie Brown from Foyle Women’s Aid and Mairia Cahill.
May 2017 – The new Children & Young People’s Centre POD15 was officially opened by the NI Children & Young People’s Commissioner – Koulla Yissouma.
Speakers on the day also included Deputy Mayor of Derry & Strabane Jim McKeever; Kieran Downey, WHSCT; Jan Melia, Women’s Aid Federation NI; Geraldine O’Hare, PBNI; Det. Sup. Ryan Henderson, PSNI; with closing remarks from Marie Brown, Director of Foyle Women’s Aid.

July 2017 – Angela Robb & Brenda McCallion from the Court Service held their Charity Summer Ball in the City Hotel, in memory of Her Honour Judge Corinne Philpott QC, on the 200 year anniversary of Londonderry Courthouse. Money raised was divided between Foyle Women’s Aid and City Friends of Marie Curie.
